Saddle Stitch – Traditional

£285.00

Over centuries the technique of Saddle Stitching has been perfected to ensure each stitch gives the maximum amount of strength and minimum amount of movement whilst adding to the overall beauty of the item.
The two main tools used to produce the holes are the pricking iron and awl, the iron is not too difficult to master, the awl on the other hand requires some practice.
It is around the awl that this course revolves.

Course Content
During this course you will be taught how to match the SPI to the item you are making.
How to match the thread and needles to the SPI and item, how to match the Awl to the SPI and thread.
Once this is covered, use of the irons will be covered in detail showing how to stitch mark, where to stitch mark and what depth to mark to.
Various Stitching positions are then covered in detail which leads on to stitching with the awl.
Awl use is covered in detail showing blade types, haft types, how it is held, how it is used in conjunction with the needles and how to make your holes.
The awl is regarded as one of the harder tools to master in the workshop and takes a great many hours of practice to master. A solid foundation to ensure good practices is vital if this is the stitching style you wish to use.
