About the Event

During this course you will examine the principles of the modern saddle stitch.

That is to say, you will be learning to Saddle Stitch but using the modern irons that make the holes completely in the leather, this removes the need for an awl.

The awl is the biggest hurdle many have difficulty getting over in the traditional style of stitching.

Even with the absence of the awl, the saddle stitch still commands a high level of skill. During this course you will examine the principles of the saddle stitch and the balance of what you are trying to achieve against what the thread is trying to do.

There is a balance that needs to be attained and this is explained in detail during the course.

On the course you will learn how to choose your tools, which thread to use with what SPI, how to mark and make your holes, how to begin and end a row of stitching, how deal with short or snapped thread, how to double prick leather, where and how to stitch round a corner, how to stitch between two fixed points to ensure no long or short stitches and how to tackle multiple layers.
