About the Event

This is a course for the more ambitious and experienced leatherworker and as such, it will be expected that you will have a good understanding of the saddle stitch prior to attending.

There is a lot of awl work and familiarity of the tool is desired but not essential, there will be a lot of instruction on how to use the awl during the course.

During this course, you will learn how to create a template of the box to be made, this will then be used to explain how to ‘layout’ all stitching for the box.

Cutting features heavily in this course and precision is paramount. 20 pieces of leather need to be cut so they fit together with little opportunity for sanding or adjustment after.

In view of this, time is spent on learning how to measure and cut leather properly. You may think it is simple enough, you may be mistaken.

Following this, mitring will be covered, with a further 64 cuts needed, each requiring a high level of precision, time will be spent on this valuable skill.

With the cuts taken care of, the course will move onto stitch marking and hole making. This will tie into the work undertaken on the templates.

The course will then naturally evolve into stitching the pieces together, each student will have use of a professional Box Stitching Clam to ensure they are given the best possible opportunity to achieve the highest standard of box during the course.

Due to the high level of skill required and the complexity of the project, there is no guarantee that everyone will complete the project but every effort will be made for them to do so.
