About the Event
During this course you will examine the principles of the Modern Saddle Stitch.
That is to say, you will be learning to Saddle Stitch but using the modern irons that make the holes completely in the leather removing the need for an awl. The awl is the biggest hurdle many have difficulty getting over in the traditional style of stitching.
Even with the absence of the awl, the saddle stitch still commands a high level of skill.
During this course you will examine the principles of the saddle stitch and the balance of what you are trying to achieve against what the thread is trying to do.
On the course you will learn skills like:
Correct tool selection.
Which thread to use with what SPI including needle selection.
How to mark and make the holes to get the most effective stitch.
How to begin and end a row of stitching including back stitching and stacking the stitch.
How deal with short or snapped thread.
How to double prick leather.
Where and how to stitch round a corner.
How to stitch between two fixed points to ensure no long or short stitches.
How to tackle multiple layers on thicker items.
